Paws Volunteer Opportunity
You can volunteer at the local PETSMART to clean the cat cages in their adoption area. You are encouraged to play with the cats and kittens while you are there! They are seeking more volunteers and it is a very simple "job"--fresh food and water, clean litter in each cage (depending on layout, about 7 or 8 cages) and you can do this anytime between 7am and 9:30 am. They prefer it be clean when the store opens at 9, but are just grateful someone is willing to do the job. To volunteer, pick up an application by the kitties, it is an adoption/volunteer sheet- fill it out, and return it to PetSmart. The Reazers got a call the very next day!

Free Baseball Game, Anyone?

In reference to this post about the Lancaster Barnstormers Minor League Baseball reading program, I have received a number of bookmarks to pass out among our local home schoolers. I'm passing them out this week at our INCH activities as well as at the home school Theater Class. Anyone interested in receiving a bookmark, please either attend an activity or contact me (Stacy - you can use the INCH contact info at the top of this page).

The bookmarks keep track of reading goals: 4 books = free ticket to baseball game! I must hear back from those with bookmarks by April 17th! Once I hear back from everyone (by that date), I can apply for and receive vouchers for everyone who completes a bookmark. When I get those, I can pass those out to those who have earned them. And we can all enjoy a nice baseball game together! What a neat program! Happy Reading! :)

Host Foreign Exhchange Students!

Another great opportunity to pass along!

Hello,

I just wanted to share with the the wonderful opportunity to host an exchange student for one month this summer. Teenagers from France and Spain will be arriving in the last days of June to stay with American families until the end of July. I am currently seeking families to host some of these students.

The teens all speak English and are coming here to practice their language skills and to experience the American way of life. You don't need to have a showcase home, or lead a totally exciting life to enjoy one of these students. They can share a room with your own children, if you'd like, they just need their own bed. They bring their own spending money, you are only responsible for feeding and housing them. You are to accept them as a member of the family and not treat them like a guest. In other words, they clean up after themselves and participate in anything your family does.

I have been involved with these student exchange groups for over five years and have hosted 9 different students for varying lengths of time. I've also had many more for overnight or 2-3 days visits. Each one of them has been a wonderful joy to our family. We have treasured memories of each person. This is an experience I wish that everybody would experience, at least once. I cannot tell you how much our lives have been enriched by doing this. And I hear this from so many of my host families.

If you would like to know more, please call me at 610-670-7878 or email me at blessingsgaloreptl@yahoo.com Feel free to ask me anything at all about this program. I can also supply you with names and numbers of other families who can tell you of their experiences! You can also go to www.nacel.net to learn more about the organization that oversees my groups.

Please consider making this year the one that you open you life and family and hearts to one of these wonderful kids! Would you please pass this email onto other trusted friends that you think would be a good family to host. Thank you so much for your prayerful consideration and for taking the time to read this and pass it on!

Online Courses for Teens

I've received the following email and am passing along the information to you!

Hi!

Home schooling my daughter and son for the past five years has been one
of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Recently, though, I also
had the opportunity to teach a short class to teens in my children's
home school co-op and absolutely loved it! In fact, I expanded my
lessons and materials to create two on-line courses for teens about
subjects rarely available to home school students: Journalism and Web
Site Development. You can read more about the courses at my web site,
http://www.hugyourfamily.com, or print flyers from these PDFs:

http://www.hugyourfamily.com/journalism.pdf
http://www.hugyourfamily.com/webdevelopment.pdf

I will begin teaching the above courses in April, but students can join
anytime and work through the weekly lessons at their own pace.

If you'd like to promote these courses to members of your group, I would
be happy to offer a $10 discount per course and provide you with a
personalized flyer that includes a custom discount code for your group.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at your
convenience. Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you!

Best regards,

Michael D. Miller
