February Field Trip

Here's our information from Christy for this month's field trip:

This will be a short, really awesome field trip this month. We will be
going to visit WITF in harrisburg. The tour will begin at 10:00 am and
last about one hour, but we should try to meet at the studio about 15
min. early. (Directions and all tour information is below.)

As for supplemental information, my simple advice is to explore the
WITF web site with your children. http://www.witf.org/index.php
(Parents may want to take a look at the links on the education section
of their site.) Talk to them about how WITF is a publicly supported
network and what that entails. You can get information about this on
their site as well. The end portion of the tour (mock studio) sounds
like something my son will LOVE!

If any family would like to stop for lunch after the tour let me know,
and I will try to arrange something. If I don't hear anything, I will
assume we will just make it a short day this time.

(Side note: When discussing field trips last night, my husband mentioned
that TMI has a museum. I am not finding information anywhere about how
to tour this museum. It may not be in operation any more. Dickenson
college has a virtual tour of the plant online, and some historical
information about the plant etc. Does anyone know of this museum and
how to tour it?)

Date/time: Friday, February 8, 10:00 a.m.
Tour length: 45-60 minutes
Number of participants: 23 people or so (students ages 7-14, parents, and several younger siblings)

Tour guide: Kathy Silks, VP/Community Relations; ask for me when you arrive at the reception desk; one or more WITF tour guides-in-training may “shadow” the tour.

Tour description: A general (age-appropriate) tour of WITF and its multimedia operations, with hands-on activities in the interactive Demonstration Station TV studio.

Photos: Photos are permitted.
Tour evaluation: Please share the attached evaluation form (electronically or hard copy) with each family group so we can gather their feedback. Thanks!

Directions: Directions are available at http://www.witf.org/shared/visit.php. Visitor parking is available to the right after you enter the WITF parking lot off of Keckler Rd. If visitor spaces are filled, your group may use the adjacent staff parking lot. If anyone travels in a van, there is plenty of room to maneuver and park.

Emergency numbers: If anyone in the group is running more than 15 minutes late or encounters any problems getting to WITF, please ask them to call the WITF switchboard at (717) 704-3000.

Please let me know if you have any questions. I’ll look forward to meeting you and the kids and parents on Friday – we’ll have a wonderful time!

Warm regards,
Kathy Silks
